VISIT TO ST. MARY NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL

At St. Mary nursery and primary school Akama Oghe the director was greeted by the school PTA who were in session that day. The director spoke to the members of the PTA about the scholarship program and the works of DePaul Hope Social Centre in Enugu since its inception in 2015. He encouraged the other widows among them to avail themselves of the opportunity offered by the organization to better their lives. Fr. Jacob stressed that already six widows from Akama Oghe have so far benefitted from the organization’s computer literacy program early this year. The Chairman of the Parents’ teachers association (PTA) Mr, Ignatius Chiude thanked the director, and the organization for the impact they have made in Akama Oghe town and asked God to continue to guide and bless the organization and take it to greater height.

After the session with the members of the PTA, the director met the pupils of the school, the teachers and the headmistress. Fr. Jacob spoke on the need for the pupils to take their studies seriously because education is light. He later distributed two exercise books to each of the eighteen children from widows homes and gave a free education scholarship check of forty three thousand five hundred naira for the school fees of those from widows family in the school. In her vote of thanks, Mrs. Ngozi Odezulu, the headmistress of the school expressed happiness at the visit of the organization and the free education program that has been extended to the school. It was appropriate according to Mrs. Ngozi since the school is made up of mainly kids from poor families and the payment of school fees has always been problematic for the families. She equally mentioned that the school is still in need of the followings: school library, recreational facilities, School a plot of land for sports activities, toilet etc. These items would cost:

  1. School library - N300,000
  2. Recreational facilities - N425,000
  3. A plot of land for recreational activities - N2,000,000
  4. Renovation of its toilet - N252,000

She asked other good spirited individuals and organization to come and assist them in order to move the school forward. She prayed that the scholarship program should be extended to other children from poor families in the school in the future.
